Wimpole House

Wimpole House is a striking group of Grade II listed town houses located at the intersection of Wimpole Street and New Cavendish Street in Westminster, London. Designed by Charles Worley in the Flemish renaissance style, this building was constructed between 1892 and 1893 for Samuel Lithgow, a legal practitioner. The foundation stone was laid by Lithgow's mother, and upon completion, the building served as his office while also accommodating medical practitioners. Notably, it functioned as a nursing home until 1940. Its unique pink terracotta façade has drawn attention, with architectural critic Nikolaus Pevsner describing it as a 'somewhat ridiculous pile,' making it an intriguing site for both tourists and researchers interested in London's architectural history.
