Dr. J. A. Savage House

The Dr. J. A. Savage House, also known as Albion Academy, was a significant historic site in Franklinton, North Carolina, built around 1880 and expanded in 1895. Originally serving as a classroom and dormitory for Albion Academy, a school for African-American students, it was later transformed into a private residence by Dr. John A. Savage. The house featured a distinctive two-story frame structure with a cross-gable roof and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Unfortunately, due to deterioration, it was demolished in 1997, leaving the lot vacant today. This site reflects an important chapter in the educational history of African-Americans in the region.
