Spring Villa

Spring Villa is a historic Carpenter Gothic plantation house located on the outskirts of Opelika, Alabama. Built in 1850 by William Penn Yonge, it is one of the few remaining examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the state, inspired by designs from Andrew Jackson Downing. The house is set next to a picturesque 30-acre spring-fed lake, which lends it its name. Acquired by the city in 1927, it now serves as the centerpiece of Spring Villa Park, a sprawling 325-acre recreational area. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, highlighting its architectural significance. Visitors can admire its unique features, including steeply pitched cross-gables, sawnwork balconies, and intricate bargeboards, making it a fascinating destination for both tourists and researchers interested in historic architecture.
