Liendo Plantation

Liendo Plantation is a historic cotton plantation located in Waller County, Texas, originally granted to José Justo Liendo in 1828. The plantation gained prominence when it was purchased in 1873 by sculptor Elisabet Ney and her husband, physician Edmund Montgomery. It served as a Confederate military camp during the Civil War, known as Camp Groce, where many soldiers were trained and imprisoned. The plantation home received a state historical marker in 1936 and was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1964, later being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Visitors can explore its rich history, including its role in the Civil War and its architectural significance.
