Old Point Loma Lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse was first lit in 1855 atop the Point Loma peninsula and served as San Diego's primary lighthouse until it was decommissioned in 1891 because fog and low clouds often obscured its light. The restored lighthouse now stands within Cabrillo National Monument and is interpreted for visitors as an example of mid-19th-century lighthouse life. The Monument also marks the landing place of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542, which is commemorated on site.
