The Tholsel, Kilkenny

The Tholsel, also known as the Town Hall, is a historic municipal building located in the heart of Kilkenny, Ireland. Dating back to the 14th century, it has served various administrative functions and was the site of significant historical events, including the execution of Petronilla de Meath for heresy in 1324. The current neoclassical structure was completed in 1761 and features an impressive arcaded ground floor and a grand assembly room. Notable figures such as John Wesley and Éamon de Valera have spoken here. After a devastating fire in 1985, the Tholsel was restored and remains a key landmark, housing important historical documents, including the First Book of Kilkenny. Today, it stands as a testament to Kilkenny's rich history and architectural heritage.
