Heard Museum - origin in Dwight B. Heard's collection

The Heard Museum grew out of the private collection of Dwight B. Heard, a Phoenix newspaper publisher and businessman. Heard's donations of Native American art and artifacts formed the nucleus of the institution dedicated to the study and exhibition of Indigenous cultures of the Southwest. The museum on Central Avenue remains a major cultural institution in Phoenix and is frequently cited in accounts of Heard's influence on the city's cultural development.
