Merritt Building

The Merritt Building, located in the historic Jewelry District of downtown Los Angeles, is a notable example of Neoclassical and Beaux Arts architecture. Built in 1915 by Reid & Reid, it originally aimed for a height of 233 feet but was constructed as a 9-story building due to city regulations. The building features a striking Yule Marble facade, ionic columns, and a design reminiscent of the Temple of Minerva. It has served various purposes over the years, including retail and office spaces, and was modernized in the late 1950s. The building is part of the Broadway Theater and Commercial District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Los Angeles' architectural history.
