Opening and renaming of HP Pavilion / SAP Center

The downtown arena opened in 1993 as HP Pavilion and has served as San Jose's primary indoor sports and event venue since then. It has been the home arena for the NHL's San Jose Sharks since its opening. In 2013 the venue's naming rights changed and it has been known as SAP Center at San Jose since that time. The arena hosts professional hockey, concerts, and other major sporting events in the city.
