Parachute Jump (Coney Island)

The Parachute Jump is a defunct 250-foot amusement ride originally built for the 1939 New York World's Fair and relocated to Coney Island in 1941. Although it no longer operates as a ride, the steel tower has been illuminated and maintained as a visual landmark and was designated a New York City landmark in 1989. The structure sits at Steeplechase Plaza and is one of Coney Island's best-known historic visual features.
