House of the Temple (Scottish Rite)

The House of the Temple at 1733 16th Street NW is the headquarters of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, and was designed by John Russell Pope. Completed in 1915, the building was inspired by classical models such as the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus and is noted for its Beaux-Arts temple-like form and ornamentation. It contains a library and museum related to Masonic history and architecture.
