Ellerslie (Linden, North Carolina)

Ellerslie is a historic plantation house in Cumberland County, North Carolina, built around 1790. This Georgian-style dwelling features a Greek Revival addition and a wide porch with a cove ceiling. Founded by Scottish immigrant George Elliot, it became a significant landholding and political site, especially during the American Civil War when it was occupied by both Confederate and Union troops. Notable residents include Civil War diarist Jane Evans Elliot and privateer John Newland Maffitt. Ellerslie was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
