Moreton Bay fig at Balboa Park Botanical Building

A large Moreton Bay fig (Ficus macrophylla) grows adjacent to the Botanical Building and Lily Pond in Balboa Park and is regularly noted in park guides for its broad canopy and visible buttress roots. The specimen is part of the set of historic exotic trees planted in Balboa Park during the early 20th century and appears in horticultural surveys of the park. The tree is a frequent subject of photography and is accessible from the El Prado plaza area.
