Live oak hammock at Fort Caroline National Memorial

Fort Caroline National Memorial preserves maritime hammock vegetation including mature live oaks that form the wooded backdrop to the reconstructed fort area and interpretive trails. The live oak canopy and associated coastal trees are integral to the site's historic landscape interpretation of 16th-century French colonial presence in northeastern Florida. The memorial is administered by the National Park Service as part of the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve.
