Scattergood-Thorne Estate

The Scattergood-Thorne Estate, located in Langley, Virginia, is a historic site that serves as the oldest structure on the CIA campus. Originally known as the Calvert Estate, it was home to labor activists Florence Calvert Thorne and Margaret Scattergood, who negotiated to remain in their home even after selling the property to the government. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 18th century and has transitioned from a family home to a conference center used by the CIA. Notably, the estate was a hub for political activism, with Scattergood advocating for civil rights and anti-war efforts. Today, it offers a glimpse into the past, with only one room locked to visitors, and is visible from Virginia Route 123.
