The Parthenon in Centennial Park

Built as a full-scale replica of the ancient Parthenon for the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition, the Nashville Parthenon occupies the center of Centennial Park. The structure was rebuilt in permanent materials after the exposition and now serves as an art museum. It houses a 42-foot statue of Athena by sculptor Alan LeQuire, installed in 1990. The building is a documented example of 19th-century American neoclassical exhibition architecture.
