Williams Mansion

The Williams Mansion, located at 16 Meeting St. in Charleston, South Carolina, is a stunning Victorian house open for public tours. Built between 1875 and 1876 for businessman George W. Williams, this expansive 24,000-square-foot mansion features thirty main rooms, including a grand ballroom with a soaring 45-foot ceiling. Originally known as the Calhoun Mansion after it was inherited by Patrick Calhoun, the house has a rich history, including its transformation into a hotel in 1914. In 2020, it was renamed back to Williams Mansion to distance itself from its controversial past. The mansion is also notable for its appearances in popular culture, including the mini-series North and South and the film The Notebook, making it a fascinating destination for both tourists and researchers interested in architecture and history.
