Moulin Rouge Hotel and Casino - first integrated resort in Las Vegas

The Moulin Rouge Hotel and Casino opened in May 1955 and is documented as the first integrated hotel-casino in Las Vegas, admitting both Black and white guests and hiring Black performers when much of the Strip remained segregated. Its opening brought nationally known African American entertainers to Las Vegas stages and made the property a focal point in the city's civil-rights history. The resort closed later in 1955 and the site has since been the subject of preservation efforts and redevelopment discussions because of its cultural significance.
