Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)

The Detroit Institute of Arts is a major art museum on Woodward Avenue in Midtown Detroit that houses Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry Murals (1932–33), a 27-panel fresco cycle commissioned for the museum. The DIA's collections span many regions and periods and the museum serves as a cultural anchor for the neighborhood. During Detroit's 2013–2014 municipal bankruptcy proceedings, the museum's collection was a central issue and ultimately remained public.
