Sherwin House

Sherwin House, located on Pilcher Gate in Nottingham, is the oldest surviving town house in the city, dating back to between 1689 and 1699. This Grade II listed building features a remarkable Jacobean staircase, the only one of its kind remaining in Nottingham from before 1700. Originally built for the Sherwin family, the house has undergone various transformations, including alterations by attorney Mr. Bigsby in the early 19th century and a conversion into a lace warehouse. After years of dereliction and a proposed demolition, it was revitalized by Mabec Properties and transformed into modern office space and residential apartments, reopening in 2021. Its rich history and architectural significance make it an intriguing site for tourists and researchers alike.
