DAR Constitution Hall - venue and 1939 controversy

DAR Constitution Hall, completed in 1929 and owned by the Daughters of the American Revolution, has served as a major concert and recital venue in Washington, D.C. In 1939 the DAR refused to allow Marian Anderson to perform in the auditorium because of a policy that excluded African American performers from certain bookings, a decision that precipitated Anderson's Lincoln Memorial concert. The hall has continued to host musical performances and events since that era.
