Jefferson Memorial - Neoclassical Monument to Thomas Jefferson

The Jefferson Memorial, designed by John Russell Pope and modeled in part on the Pantheon in Rome, was dedicated on April 13, 1943, the 200th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's birth. The domed rotunda contains a 19-foot-tall bronze statue of Jefferson and inscriptions of passages from the Declaration of Independence and Jefferson's writings on the interior walls. The memorial is managed by the National Park Service as part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks.
