Charles Sumner Post No. 25, Grand Army of the Republic

Charles Sumner Post #25 is a historic fraternal lodge located in Chestertown, Maryland, built around 1908. This two-story building, significant for its connection to African-American veterans, is one of only two surviving Grand Army of the Republic halls for this community in the nation. After being abandoned for several years, it was restored and opened to the public in 2014 as a museum dedicated to American Civil War history and the contributions of African-Americans in the conflict. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a notable landmark within the Chestertown Historic District.
