Barnes Foundation building on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway

The Barnes Foundation relocated its collection from Merion to a new building on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in 2012; the new building was designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects. The institution is noted for preserving Dr. Albert C. Barnes's practice of displaying artworks in carefully arranged ensembles rather than by chronology or school. The Parkway building made the collection more centrally accessible while retaining Barnes's installation principles.
