Rainier Tower - sculpted pedestal by Minoru Yamasaki

Rainier Tower was designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki and completed in 1977. The office tower is notable for its distinctive tapered pedestal that narrows dramatically near street level, giving the building an elevated appearance above a small plaza. The unusual base was intended to preserve sightlines and create landscaped public space beneath the tower. The pedestal has made Rainier Tower one of Seattle's most recognizable mid-century modern structures.
