Wallaceton (Chesapeake, Virginia)

Wallaceton is a historic home in Chesapeake, Virginia, originally built between 1853 and 1863 as a company store. This Greek Revival style dwelling features distinctive architectural elements such as flat corner pilasters and a full-width front porch. After the Civil War, the house was expanded and relocated in 1910 to preserve it from the Dismal Swamp Canal. The property also includes a two-room kitchen building and a dairy. Named after John Gallaudet Wallace, a Civil War veteran, Wallaceton was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
