French Legation Museum, 1841 diplomatic residence

Built in 1841, the French Legation at 802 San Marcos St served as the residence of the French chargé d'affaires to the Republic of Texas and is one of Austin's oldest surviving frame buildings. The house and grounds have been preserved as a museum interpreting 19th-century French-Texan relations and early Austin history. The site is listed as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and is open for tours and public programs.
