Pittsburgh Athletic Association

The Pittsburgh Athletic Association, designed by architect Benno Janssen and completed in 1911, is a historic building located in Pittsburgh's Oakland district. This eight-story structure, styled in the Venetian High Renaissance, features a stunning lobby with coffered ceilings, a marble fireplace, and various elegant rooms including the Pennsylvania Room and Schenley Lounge. Originally a private social and athletic club, it offered extensive facilities such as a swimming pool, basketball courts, and a bowling alley. The club was notable for its elite amateur ice hockey team and hosted numerous events until its closure in 2017. After a series of renovations, the building is now owned by the University of Pittsburgh and remains a landmark facing other significant buildings in the area.
