Heard Building

The Heard Building, a historic 7-story high-rise in Phoenix, Arizona, was the first skyscraper in the city, completed in 1920. It served as the headquarters for The Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette until 1948. Designed by architect Llewellyn Adelbert Parker, the building features a reinforced concrete structure, a response to fire risks following a devastating hotel fire in 1910. The building underwent significant remodeling in 1937 to modernize its facade and facilities. It also housed the KTAR radio station, which began operations in 1930. The Heard Building is notable for its appearances in popular culture, including Alfred Hitchcock's film Psycho, and has been adorned with murals by Swiss artists in 2018, celebrating its rich history.
