Jefferson Market Courthouse haunt lore

The Jefferson Market Courthouse, now the Jefferson Market Library, was built in the 1870s and formerly housed a criminal court and jail. Local historians, visitors, and walking-tour accounts have circulated reports of unexplained footsteps, voices, and the feeling of presence in the building-attributed in folklore to its past as a courthouse and detention site. These accounts are widely published in ghost-tour literature but are anecdotal and not scientifically verified.
