Old Corner Bookstore

The Old Corner Bookstore building on Washington Street dates to the early 18th century and became a prominent 19th-century publishing house location. From the mid-1800s it housed Ticknor and Fields, which published 19th-century American authors including Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The building remains a historic landmark in the Downtown Crossing area and now contains commercial retail while preserving its historic façade.
