Grand Army of the Republic Hall (Aurora, Illinois)

The Grand Army of the Republic Hall, located on Stolp Island in Aurora, Illinois, is a historic building dedicated to honoring U.S. Civil War veterans. Established in 1869 by the Soldier's Monument Association, the hall served as a meeting place for Union veterans and was the only public library in Aurora until 1903. Designed by Joseph Mulvey, the Gothic Revival structure features locally quarried limestone and includes an outdoor area with an 1851 cannon. After facing demolition in the 1960s, public support led to its preservation, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Today, it operates as the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Museum, welcoming visitors every Saturday afternoon.
