Mid-20th-century disappearance of Detroit's streetcar network

Detroit's original streetcar system ceased operation in 1956 when streetcar lines were replaced by buses and tracks were removed along major corridors, including Woodward Avenue. The once-extensive rail network that ran past downtown buildings such as 1 Woodward Ave disappeared from daily use for decades. Rail transit returned to the Woodward corridor with the opening of the QLine in 2017.
