Ruthmere Mansion

Ruthmere Mansion, a stunning Beaux-Arts residence built in 1910, is the most notable historic house in Elkhart, Indiana. Open to the public as a museum, it showcases exquisite interior design featuring Cuban mahogany, silk wall coverings, and hand-painted murals. The mansion's architecture includes buff-colored brick and limestone, with a grand entrance and a balustraded marble piazza. Originally the home of Albert and Elizabeth Beardsley, it served as a hub for social and political gatherings until their deaths in 1924. The mansion was restored by The Beardsley Foundation in the late 1960s and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offering visitors a glimpse into early 20th-century life and art, including works by Louis Comfort Tiffany and Auguste Rodin.
