National Palace (Dominican Republic)

The National Palace, located in Santo Domingo, serves as the executive branch's headquarters in the Dominican Republic. Designed by Italian architect Guido D'Alessandro in a neoclassical style, its construction began on February 27, 1944, and it was inaugurated on August 16, 1947. Spanning 18,000 square meters, the palace is renowned for its luxurious appointments and is considered one of the nation's architectural gems. Notably, it stands on the site of the former Presidential Mansion from the U.S. occupation era. The palace also gained fame as a filming location for The Godfather Part II, particularly the Hall of the Caryatids, where a pivotal scene unfolds.
