Provo Canyon Guard Quarters

The Provo Canyon Guard Quarters, located in northeastern Utah County, is a historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built during the Utah War (1857-1858) as a response to perceived threats from the federal government, this fortification played a role in the bloodless standoff between the federal troops and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Positioned at an elevation of 5,330 feet, the quarters served as a lookout for Native American activity until the end of the Black Hawk Indian War in 1868. Although much of the structure has deteriorated, it remains a significant landmark for visitors interested in Utah's history and the unique conflicts of the 19th century.
