DAR Constitution Hall

DAR Constitution Hall opened in 1929 and was built by the Daughters of the American Revolution as a national auditorium for concerts, lectures, and civic events. The hall seats several thousand and has hosted inaugural balls, presidential appearances, and major touring performers. In 1939 the DAR denied contralto Marian Anderson permission to perform there under the organization's prevailing segregation practices, leading to her open-air concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on April 9, 1939.
