Shire Hall, Shinfield Park

Shire Hall, located in Shinfield Park just south of Reading, Berkshire, was the headquarters of Berkshire County Council from 1981 to 1998. Designed in a striking Brutalist style, the building features seven low-rise octagonal structures with extensive glazing. Officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1982, it was built to accommodate the expanded responsibilities of the county council following the Local Government Act 1972. After its closure, the site transitioned to various commercial uses, including offices for Foster Wheeler and Wood Group. As of February 2025, the complex is set to be demolished, marking the end of its historical significance.
