Coit Tower

Coit Tower is a 210-foot Art Deco tower on Telegraph Hill completed in 1933 and funded by a bequest from Lillie Hitchcock Coit intended to beautify the city. The tower's interior contains a series of 1934 murals painted by a group of artists working under New Deal–era public art programs; the murals depict scenes of California life and were the subject of contemporary political debate. The tower's location and height provide panoramic views of San Francisco, which has made it a frequent tourist destination.
