Spa Pump Room, Hockley

The Spa Pump Room in Hockley, Essex, is a Grade II listed Victorian building designed by architect James Lockyer and completed in 1842. Originally built to harness a medicinal spring discovered by local residents Robert and Letitia Clay, the Pump Room was intended to provide therapeutic water to the public. Despite initial success, it closed in the early 1850s and has since served various purposes, including a Baptist chapel and a billiard hall. The building features elegant Italian-style architecture with luxurious interior details. Today, it is privately owned and stands as a historical landmark, reflecting the rich spa culture of the 19th century.
