Shirehall, Norwich

The Shirehall is a historic Grade II listed building located in Market Avenue, Norwich, Norfolk, designed by William Wilkins in the Tudor Revival style and completed in 1823. Originally serving as a site for justice, it hosted significant trials, including the notorious case of James Bloomfield Rush in 1849. Following the establishment of county councils, it became the meeting place for Norfolk County Council and later housed the Regimental Museum of the Royal Norfolk Regiment. Today, it is home to the Norwich Castle Study Centre, featuring over 20,000 costume and textile items, accessible to the public by appointment, making it a valuable resource for researchers and a point of interest for tourists.
