Kornis Castle

Kornis Castle, located in Mănăstirea village, Cluj County, Romania, is a historic monument that dates back to the 16th century. Originally constructed in the Renaissance style by Kristóf Keresztúri, the castle underwent significant renovations and expansions by the Kornis family in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Notable features include octagonal bastions and a tower at the entrance, which still stands today. The castle was heavily damaged during World War II, leading to the loss of its extensive library and natural history collection. Although some restoration efforts were made in the 1970s, the castle remains in ruins. It is famous for its former statues of unicorns that guarded the entrance, adding to its mystical allure for visitors and researchers alike.
