Arrest of Mark David Chapman (John Lennon assassination)

On December 8, 1980, Mark David Chapman shot John Lennon outside The Dakota as Lennon and his wife returned to the building. Chapman remained at the scene and was arrested by New York City Police Department officers shortly afterward. He was charged with second-degree murder, pleaded guilty, and remains incarcerated. The shooting and immediate arrest took place at the entrance to The Dakota building.
