Ellis-Shackelford House

The Ellis-Shackelford House, located at 1242 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix, Arizona, is a historic mansion built in 1917 in the bungalow/craftsman style. Designed by architect R.A. Gray, it is one of the few unaltered mansions on North Central Avenue and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally home to Dr. William Ellis, a prominent medical figure, the house has served various purposes, including a boys' home and offices for the Arizona Historical Society. After a renovation, it now houses Arizona Humanities. The house is notable for its family legacy, with weddings celebrated by four generations of the Ellis family, making it a unique site for both tourists and researchers interested in Arizona's architectural and social history.
