African Meeting House - oldest Black church building

The African Meeting House at 46 Joy Street in Beacon Hill was built in 1806 and is the oldest surviving Black church building in the United States. It served as a central institution for Boston's free Black community in the 19th century and hosted abolitionist meetings and educational activities. Today it is part of the Museum of African American History and is regularly referenced in local histories of Boston's African American heritage.
