2nd Avenue Lofts

The 2nd Avenue Lofts, located in Saskatoon's Central Business District, is a historic site that has undergone significant transformations since its original construction in 1913 as the J.F. Cairns Department Store. Initially a five-story building, it became a Hudson's Bay Company location in 1922, featuring the elegant Chippendale style Imperial Restaurant. After the original structure was replaced in 1960 with a modern three-story building, it served as a retail hub until 2000. The building was then converted into stylish lofts in 2004, adding a fifth story and retaining ground-floor retail space. This conversion is part of a broader residential revival in the area, making it an interesting destination for tourists and researchers alike, especially those interested in urban development and historical architecture.
