Hotel Florida (Madrid)

The Hotel Florida, located in Callao Square in central Madrid, was built in 1924 and became a significant hub for foreign correspondents during the Spanish Civil War. Notable figures such as Ernest Hemingway, who wrote 'The Fifth Column' while staying there, frequented the hotel, which featured a marble façade and 200 rooms with bathrooms. It served as a gathering place for writers and intellectuals, including Mikhail Koltsov and John Dos Passos. The hotel was demolished in 1964, but its legacy continues through exhibitions and cultural references, including a reproduction of its reception hall for the HBO film 'Hemingway & Gellhorn'.
