Hathaway's Tavern

Hathaway's Tavern, located at 255 North Main Street in St. Albans, Vermont, is the city's oldest surviving building, constructed in 1793. This historic tavern served as a temporary seat for the Franklin County government and was also a post office. The building features a charming two-story wood-frame structure with a hip roof and a Colonial Revival portico. Originally owned by Silas Hathaway, an English immigrant, it was later converted into a private residence in 1805 and has remained in the hands of his descendants until 1931. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, it offers a glimpse into the early history of the area and is a notable landmark for visitors and researchers alike.
