Mission San José - surveyed mission complex and acequia

Mission San José y San Miguel de Áyala was founded in 1720 and its church, granary, and quadrangle were built according to Spanish colonial mission planning and land-use surveys. The mission’s agricultural fields and irrigation acequia system were laid out and recorded in mission and colonial documents, and archaeological surveys have documented the original field boundaries and irrigation features. Mission San José is part of San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and is often cited as a well-preserved example of an 18th-century surveyed mission landscape.
