Fort Point National Historic Site

Fort Point is a brick masonry fort completed in 1861 at the southern base of the Golden Gate and was intended to defend the entrance to San Francisco Bay. The site was transferred to the National Park Service and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It preserves 19th-century military architecture and is open to visitors for exhibits about the fort's history and role during the Civil War era.
